Paris: Six days after a 17-year-old boy was shot dead by police, the unrest in France appears to be subsiding. According to the Home Ministry, 157 people were arrested overnight. Earlier during the violence on June 30, 3880 people were arrested overnight. Nahel, 17, was killed in police firing in the suburb of Nanterre. Nahel was of Algerian origin. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said 45,000 police officers had been deployed to deal with outcry over discrimination against people belonging to former French colonies and living in low-income areas.

Riots in Switzerland too
The fire of riots spread in France has now reached Lausanne in neighboring Switzerland. Seven people have been detained after stones were pelted at some shops here on Sunday. Most of these are teenagers. Police said more than 100 people gathered in the center of the French-speaking city of Lausanne in western Switzerland on Saturday evening. It has been said in the statement that they had gathered after an appeal made on social media regarding the violence in France. France has been rocked by violence after a police shooting killed a 17-year-old in a suburb of Paris.

Girls also involved in riots
According to the police, window panes of several shops were broken and the door of a shop was damaged due to stone pelting and petrol bomb hurling by youths. Police have detained six minors whose age is between 15 and 17 years. There are three girls and three boys and they have citizenship of Portugal, Somalia, Bosnia, Switzerland, Georgia and Serbia. The police have also detained a 24-year-old Swiss national.
