India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ruchira Kamboj, speaking at the inter-governmental talks on Security Council reform, stressed that equality should be the cornerstone of global efforts to reform the 15-nation UN body. He said that equality demands that every nation, regardless of its size or power, be given equal opportunity…to shape global decision-making.” The reference was to the permanent members – China, France, Russia, Britain and the US – whose special veto rights have the power to influence decision-making in the Security Council on matters of maintaining international peace.
