Future cyber, space or information warfare, why China remains ahead of everyone, how MSS and SSF work, what strategic changes were made in it

On 25 May Australia and its partners in the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network – Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the US – revealed a cyber hacking group called ‘Volt Typhoon’. The group has been found infiltrating critical infrastructure since 2021.
Apart from infiltrating the borders of other countries, occupying the land of countries seeking help with the help of its ambitious projects, and expansionism, China is also famous for its cyber attacks. Recently there was news that China is the reason for server down and data theft and cyber fraud all over the world. He is getting cyber attacks done by hackers all over the world. This was claimed in the American report. However, China rejected the American report outright. At the same time, a theory has also emerged regarding the strategic change of Chinese cyber intrusion. On 25 May Australia and its partners in the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network – Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the US – revealed a cyber hacking group called ‘Volt Typhoon’. The group has been found infiltrating critical infrastructure since 2021, but recent intelligence on its behavior indicates a worrying development in the Chinese cyber establishment. The Five Eyes revelation directly blames the Chinese government for Typhoon Volt. There are many layers that need to be unfolded to uncover the true nature and implications of the threat.
Monitoring of people-organizations in the country and abroad, responsibility of MSS for investigation
State enforcer cyber threats emerging from China can be grouped under two broad government structures, the Ministry of State Security and the Strategic Support Force. Intelligence agencies of any country apparently remain secret. But China’s Ministry of State Security ie MSS is a big mystery in itself. It has no official website, no contact list, no spokesperson. The MSS, established in 1983, deals with counter-intelligence, foreign intelligence, domestic surveillance and intelligence for national security.
People’s Liberation Army Strategic Support Force
Formed in December 2015, the People’s Liberation Army Strategic Support Force (SSF) aims to coordinate China’s space, cyber and electronic warfare. The PLA considers these three domains as important for “command at strategic heights”. The SSF was formed to optimize China’s dominance in these three domains and contribute to the enhancement of the PLA’s broader goals of strategic deterrence and integration for information warfare. SSF is the information warfare of the People’s Liberation Army, similar to the US Cyber Command. Its American counterpart focuses solely on military cyber operations. The SSF has a broad mandate covering electronic warfare, strategic military cyber operations and political warfare. The SSF was established in 2015 as part of structural reforms in the PLA under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
