G20: 400 rooms booked in ITC Maurya for Biden, Sunak to be a guest of Shangri-La, Jinping to stay at Taj, these cities are also being prepared for VVIP parking

Preparations are in full swing in Delhi for the G20 summit. Decoration work is being done in many areas. Meanwhile, Delhi’s hospitality industry is gearing up for one of the busiest and most high-profile seasons ever in September. Political, cultural and business delegations will also participate along with the heads of state of the member countries in the upcoming G20 leaders’ summit to be held in the capital on 9 and 10 September. Hotels in Central and South Delhi and Aerocity are fully booked from the first week of September. The teams at these hotels are working round the clock to provide an unforgettable experience for the visiting dignitaries. As many as 50 special flights are expected to land at Delhi’s two airports – the Indira Gandhi International Airport and the Indian Air Force base at Palam – for the G20 summit.

Preparations are in full swing at Delhi’s iconic ITC Maurya as it gears up to host US President Joe Biden during his upcoming visit. A media report claimed that preparations have started in full swing in anticipation of this important event. Notably, more than 400 rooms have been reserved for the residence of President Biden and his team.

Taj booked for Jinping

The Taj has been booked for Chinese President Xi Jinping. Most of the rooms in this hotel have been booked for the Chinese President and his aides. Apart from China, guests from UAE and Brazil will also stay in this hotel. Apart from this, Hotel Claridges in Delhi has been booked for the President of France. The President of France and his accompanying aides will stay in this entire hotel. The Prime Minister of Australia will be staying at the Hotel Imperial.

Rishi Sunak will be guest of Shangri La

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be the guest of honor at Hotel Shangri La. The guests of Germany will stay in this hotel. According to the preparations made so far, arrangements are being made to host a head of a country outside Delhi as well.

Parking space in Delhi not enough for VVIP aircraft

Around 50 special aircraft are expected to land at Delhi’s two airports, the Indira Gandhi International Airport and the Indian Air Force base in Palam, for the G20 summit next month. In such a situation, due to lack of parking space, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is exploring options to send them to other cities. The above two airports currently have parking space for around 40 aircrafts and hence the Ministry of External Affairs is considering to send the rest to Amritsar, Jaipur, Lucknow and Indore. According to The Indian Express, a recent coordination meeting chaired by the chief of protocol of the Ministry of External Affairs discussed that 50 VVIP aircraft are about to land and 13 heads of state or representatives are expected to arrive on commercial flights. The specific details of these aircraft including their configuration, date, timings etc. will be known later. Sources told IE that the special aircraft would be parked in Bay-1 and Bay-3, which are very close to the ceremonial lounge. The meeting was attended by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Indian Air Force (IAF), Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Intelligence Bureau and Customs.
