The project will first be commissioned in October 2022 by Adani Ports and SEZ Limited (APSEZ) was to be given. APSEZ was the lowest bidder (L-1) in the two final bids made for this. At that time JSW Group was also a contender. Addressing the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) held here, Mamata Banerjee said that there are 12 ‘game-changing’ opportunities in Bengal.

Investment worth Rs 25,000 crore will be attracted

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the first opportunity is the proposed deep sea port in Tajpur which is up for tender. You can participate in the tender. It will attract investment of three billion dollars i.e. Rs 25,000 crore. The absence of Adani Group from this conference has also raised questions on its role in the Tajpur port project. However, sources say that there may be political compulsion behind doing so. Sources said Adani Port has not backed out and is waiting for the project allotment letter. The allotment letter is a necessary document to move ahead after the letter of intent to allot (LOIA) submitted recently. Mamata Banerjee herself had handed over the LOIA to APSEZ Chief Executive Officer Karan Adani in October 2022. Several attempts were made to contact West Bengal Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi to clarify the situation on the invitation given to industrialists to participate in the tender for the Tajpur project, but it did not happen. No official comment has come yet to clarify the situation in this regard.

Saurabh Ganguly will become the brand ambassador of Bengal

While inaugurating the business summit held here, Mamata Banerjee also announced a new cable landing station in the sea resort of Digha and promotion of bio-fuel to improve ‘internet connectivity’ in the eastern region. He also announced the appointment of former Indian cricket team captain and entrepreneur Saurabh Ganguly as the brand ambassador of West Bengal. Ganguly, who belongs to an industrialist family, has made his strong presence felt in the business world in the last few years. He said that the economy of West Bengal is growing at the rate of 8.41 percent and its gross domestic product (GDP) will reach $ 212 billion in the current financial year. In a recent report by Forbes India, West Bengal was ranked sixth in terms of GDP among Indian states. In the presence of top entrepreneurs like Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, energy baron Sanjiv Goenka and Wipro’s Rishad Premji, the Chief Minister said that four new industrial corridors would be set up. These corridors will be established in Dankuni-Kalyani, Tajpur Port-Raghunathpur, Dankuni-Jhargram and Durgapur-Cooch Behar.

An investment proposal of 190 billion dollars came in the conference.

Mamata Banerjee said that in the last six editions of this conference, a total of proposals worth $190 billion were received, out of which projects worth $121 billion have either started or are in various stages of implementation. Bengal Global Business Summit is organized every year. Hundreds of companies from 35 countries including Britain, America, Australia, Korea, Japan, Germany and France are participating in its seventh edition. In her inaugural speech, the West Bengal Chief Minister targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led central government and said that I am sad to say that the state is not getting any financial support from the Centre. We are not getting our share in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue and the allocation under the MNREGA scheme has also been stopped. Describing West Bengal as a model state of peace and good governance, he said that the opposition is running a campaign to malign its image.
