Palestinians were allowed to leave the city for the first time amid more than three weeks of siege of Gaza, where a refugee camp was targeted by Israeli air strikes for the second day on Wednesday.

Amid worsening conditions, 110 foreign passport holders were allowed to leave Gaza as of Wednesday afternoon, according to Palestine Crossing Authority spokesman Wael Abu Omar.

According to Omar, six buses carrying 335 foreign passport holders left Gaza for Egypt via the Rafah crossing by Wednesday afternoon. The authority said more than 400 foreign passport holders were allowed to visit Egypt under the scheme.

Egypt has said it will not accept an influx of Palestinian refugees because it fears Israel will not allow them to return to Gaza after the war. Dozens of people were seen entering the Rafah crossing and carrying injured Palestinians in ambulances towards Egypt.

Thousands of people have become homeless due to the bombing in Gaza and the shortage of food, water and fuel is increasing. During this time, apart from the four hostages released by Hamas, no one was allowed to leave the city. Earlier this week, Israeli forces rescued another hostage.

Meanwhile, Al-Jazeera television broadcast video of the destruction in the Jabaliya refugee camp near Gaza City and several injured people, including children, being taken to a nearby hospital.
