Gaza (Best Hindu News): Palestinian militants fired two shells from the Gaza Strip towards southern Israel on Wednesday night following tensions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.
An Israeli army spokesman said in a press statement that two shells were fired from the Gaza Strip towards the Gaza border.
According to the spokesman, one shell failed to cross the border and landed in Gaza, while the other hit the border fence area inside Israeli territory. No one has been reported injured or damaged in the incident, and no one has claimed responsibility so far.
Israeli military radio reported that the firing caused sirens to be triggered in Israeli towns bordering the Gaza Strip.
The radio said two missiles were fired into southern Israel when Israel Defense Force chief Herzi Halevi was in the area with soldiers to celebrate the Jewish Passover holiday.
Officials of the Islamic Resistance Movement of Hamas and eyewitnesses said that an explosion was heard on the border of the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian militants fired nine shells, four of which were intercepted by the Israeli army’s Iron Dome, according to an Israeli army spokesman.
The latest shooting of two rounds occurred following tensions at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound early Wednesday, when Israeli police raided the mosque in East Jerusalem and clashed with dozens of Palestinian worshipers inside.
