Addressing troops on an inspection tour of the Eastern Theater Command, Xi claimed that the world has entered a new era of turmoil and change and China’s security situation has become more erratic and unclear. In remarks made shortly after earning a record-breaking third term as president earlier this year, Xi urged China to strengthen its ability to defend national security by turning its military into the Great Wall of Steel.
