The Finance Ministry has clarified that the Central Government has extended the validity period of import duty exemption on lentils only by one year till March 31, 2025, while some sections of the media mistakenly reported lower imports for palm, soybean and sunflower oils. The Finance Ministry, in a statement issued on Ex Post on Saturday, said that it has been observed that some sections of the media have erroneously reported that the government has reduced import duty on palm, soybean and sunflower oils till March 31, 2025. The Ministry has clarified that the Government vide Gazette Notification No. 65/2023-Customs, dated December 21, 2023, has extended the validity period of import duty exemption on lentils only by one year till March 31, 2025.
It is noteworthy that according to the notification issued by the Finance Ministry on December 21, the government has extended the currently effective zero import duty on lentils (lentils) to ensure the supply of lentils from the international market and to keep domestic prices under control. Was extended till March 31, 2025. However, the government had not increased the existing import duty structure on the three crude edible oils palm, soybean and sunflower oil. According to the ministry’s notification, the exemption of 10 per cent agro-infrastructure cess along with zero import duty on lentils was extended till March 2025.
