Islamabad: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that his government will take steps to ensure equal rights for women as well as provide them equal opportunities in education and employment. In his message on International Women’s Day, the Prime Minister said, ‘Our government will continue to take steps for women’s rights, their safety, education and equal opportunities for progress.’ According to a news agency report, he said that the country needs to work together to raise the status of women in the society. History is witness to the fact that progress in human society was not possible without the constructive role of women.
Acknowledging the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of Pakistani women, Sharif said the government will provide them equal opportunities for their effective role in building the society. The Prime Minister said that the top priority of the government is to provide equal rights and opportunities to women. He said, ‘In the past, not only laws were made to ensure equal rights for women and their protection, but policy measures were also taken to include them in the mainstream.’
Sharif said civil society, media and the government must pledge to protect women’s rights and come forward to raise awareness about women’s issues.
