Jerusalem: Hamas has rejected the new ceasefire proposal, accusing Israel of ignoring its key demands. This resolution mentions the end of the war and the complete withdrawal of troops from Gaza. The extremist group said in a statement late Monday that it had informed mediators that it stuck to its original position, outlined in early March.
It said Israel had not responded to its core demands for a ‘comprehensive ceasefire, withdrawal (of Israeli troops) from the Gaza Strip, return of displaced persons and genuine prisoner exchanges’. Shortly before Hamas’s statement, the United Nations Security Council had approved a resolution calling for the release of all those held captive in Gaza and an immediate ceasefire.
The voting in this regard led to a standoff between Israel and America. America decided not to use its ‘veto’ right in the voting on Monday. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled the proposed visit of a high-level delegation to Washington. Netanyahu has rejected Hamas’s demands.
