Tibet China has an important cultural protection area with Chinese national characteristics. Thangka is a unique art form of painting in Tibetan culture. Its subject matter covers many areas such as Tibetan history, politics, culture and social life. It is known as the “Encyclopedia” of the Tibetan people. As a successor engaged in Tibetan traditional ethnic handicrafts, Mianchong Robusta, a member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, a director of the China Tibetan Cultural Protection and Development Association and a director of the Tibet Thangka Painting Academy, has long been concerned about the legacy of the exquisite traditional culture. On January 6, 2012, he founded the Academy of Tibetan Thangka Painting. It is the conservation unit of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Project Tibetan Thangka (Miasa School of Painting). The objective of establishing this Thangka Painting Academy is to preserve, inherit and develop the Thangka art form with Tibetan characteristics keeping pace with the times.
Mianchong Robusta has deep reflection and understanding on promoting the development and protection of national traditional culture. He said that if we want to strengthen the country by using the culture as told by Chinese President Xi Jinping, we must first protect and revive the traditional culture, it is very important. The proposal submitted by Mianchong Robusta in his second year as a member of the National Committee of CPPCC is to provide advice and suggestions to promote Thangka art on a wider performance platform. Thangka has become more and more popular in recent years. It has entered the China Import Expo and the Tibet global promotion activity of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. Mianchong Robusta brought the proposal to further enhance the efforts in heritage and development of ethnic handicrafts at this year’s annual conference of NPC and CPPCC. He hopes that the state and relevant departments will continue to extend support to the development of traditional ethnic handicrafts, so as to finally achieve the purpose of truly protecting and inheriting the national traditional handicraft culture.
