Jerusalem: The Lebanese military group Hezbollah on Saturday claimed responsibility for a rocket attack from Lebanon on Mount Meron in northern Israel.
In a statement, Hezbollah claimed it targeted an Israeli military installation in the area with 62 projectiles, and said the attack was an ‘initial response’ to the alleged Israeli killing of Hamas deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri in Lebanon on Tuesday .
“About 40 projectiles were identified from Lebanon towards the area of Meron in northern Israel,” a statement issued by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Saturday morning said, reports Xinhua news agency. According to the statement, the IDF responded by attacking a Lebanese military unit that participated in the launch.
Israeli media reported that the explosions near Mount Meron followed sirens going off in about 90 communities near the northern border with Lebanon. In the video circulating on social media, smoke is seen billowing from many areas of Mount Meron. There is no report of anyone being injured.
