The conversation between Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Hina Rabbani Khar has come to the fore from these leaked documents. The documents have revealed that there are deep differences between the Pakistani Prime Minister and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs regarding foreign policy. The documents show that the Government of Pakistan is unable to understand whether to consider China or America as its real friend. These documents have also opened the eyes of China which till now was blindly trusting Pakistan and providing all kinds of help to it. The revelation of the documents has also dealt a blow to Pakistan’s efforts to seek financial aid from the US.

According to a report in Pakistani newspaper The Express Tribune, parts of this secret memo titled ‘Pakistan’s tough choices’ were released by the US newspaper Washington Post. According to which Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar had warned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that Pakistan would have to avoid the feeling of pleasing the West. According to this memo, Hina Rabbani Khar warned Shehbaz Sharif that the country could no longer attempt to maintain a wedge between China and the US. According to the leaked documents, Hina Rabbani Khar argued in a memo that if Pakistan continues to try to save its partnership with the US, its real strategic relationship with China will be sacrificed.
