As per the court order, Hindu devotees can now offer prayers in a restricted area inside the mosque, called ‘Vyas ka Tekhana’. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America (VHPA), along with more than half a dozen Hindu American groups, called the decision a historic decision in a statement.
VHPA expresses its deep appreciation for the thoughtful and just decision of the Honorable Court. This historic verdict restores rights that were unlawfully taken away from Hindus in November 1993, it said in a media release on Thursday. A puja was held in the southern basement of the mosque on Wednesday night, about eight hours after a district judge ordered the resumption of Hindu prayers in the basement, a practice that was stopped three decades ago.
Hours later, the mosque committee approached the Supreme Court and Allahabad High Court, seeking a stay on the order. It said, VHPA emphasizes that this matter is fundamentally about property rights and not a struggle against any minority group. The decision, based on irrefutable evidence presented by the Hindu side, is completely in line with the principles of justice.
