The video has been shared by Major Surendra Poonia on Twitter. In the video, PML-N’s leader in the Punjab Assembly, Tariq Masih Gill, is seen giving a speech on the plight of minorities in the country, especially the girl child. Expressing his anger, he says that ‘there has been a lot of oppression on us, now we should be spared’. It is to be noted that the speaker is not a Hindu but a Christian and represents one of the 8 seats in the assembly reserved for non-Muslims.
‘Islam was accepted by showing the stick’
In his speech, Gill says, ‘Sir Speaker, I want to say this with great sadness. We have got very equal rights in 75 years. One, we got a very equal right that our girls below 15 years of age are converted to Islam. Very equal rights sir… Last week, a 12-year-old girl was converted to Islam on the strength of a stick. When I reached the police station, the DSP started telling me that he had accepted Islam on his own free will.
‘How to become a Muslim in two days?’
He said, ‘A child is born in a Christian, Hindu or Sikh community. He has drunk the milk of his Christian, Hindu or Sikh mother. He has learned his religion from childhood till youth. He does not know Kalma, does not know Hadith, does not even know the verses of Quran, how will he become a Muslim in two days. I haven’t understood this till date. I told the DSP to ask her to recite the Kalma to me, if she recites it, I will agree. Sir, before the age of 18 years, driving license and identity card are not even made, so this big certificate should not be given, I request with folded hands. There has been a great oppression on us, we should be spared.
