Washington: Indian-American lawmaker Mr. Thanedar has announced plans to form a ‘Hindu Caucus’ in the US Congress that will bring together like-minded lawmakers to ensure that there is no hatred and bigotry against Hindus in the country . Thanedar, who represents Michigan’s 13th district, made the announcement at the first Hindu-American Summit at the Capitol Visitor Center on Wednesday. Organized by Americans4Hindus and supported by 20 other organizations, the summit was attended by leaders of the Hindu community from across the country. Thanedar said it is important that each individual has the right to choose a religion and allow them to worship that god. Have the right, which they adopt without any pressure. Also, there should be no discrimination or hatred towards those who do not believe in God. The Thanedar said, ‘These are fundamental freedoms. These are fundamental human rights. Republican Congressman Rich McCormick, representing Georgia’s 6th District, announced a bipartisan Congressional delegation to India for the convention in August.

‘Hindus did a lot for America’
“I have so much respect for this immigrant population that has done so much for America,” McCormick said. McCormick said he has said repeatedly that the community is aware and feels that they do in fact have the power to choose America’s next president. He said, ‘I am not saying this just for the sake of saying it. You have real power.’
‘Will give voice to Hindu Americans’
Dr. Romesh Japra, Chairperson of Americans4Hindu, said at the event, ‘Our Hindu values are completely in line with American constitutional values. They belong to the Bhagavad Gita. That’s why we are committed to giving Hindu Americans a voice. Japra was the main organizer of the Hindu-American Summit. “This is the first ever summit that we are organizing for political engagement,” he said.
