Rishi Sunak and Leo Varadkar, the Indian-origin ministers of Britain and Ireland, met on Monday to oversee a historic power-sharing deal in Northern Ireland, where a devolved government took charge after two years. Prime Minister Sunak and Taoiseach Varadkar met at Stormont Castle, the parliament building in Belfast, and praised efforts to restore devolution to Northern Ireland. She also met separately with political leaders, including First Minister Michelle O’Neill and Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengley, who heads the devolved region executive. Pengelly is from the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).

While Southampton-born Sunak has his roots in Punjab, Dublin-born Varadkar’s family roots are in Maharashtra.
