Big controversy after being stopped from celebrating Holi, 15 students injured
It is being told that 15 Hindu students were injured during a brawl over alleged prohibition of celebrating Holi in the Panjab University campus. The incident took place at the Law College of Panjab University, when around 30 Hindu students gathered to celebrate Holi. Kashif Brohi, a student of the university and an eyewitness told TOI, as the students gathered on the campus of the law college, activists of Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT) forcibly stopped them from celebrating Holi, which led to the clash. As a result of the clash, 15 Hindu students were injured. Brohi claimed that he had taken prior permission from the university administration.
Khet Kumar injured in hand
Khet Kumar’s hand got hurt during this. She said that university security personnel beat her up when she protested outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office to protest against the IJT members forcibly stopping them from celebrating Holi. We have given a police complaint against the IJT and the security personnel involved in beating and torturing us, but the FIR has not been registered yet, Kumar said.
Vice Chancellor ordered to investigate the matter
IJT (Punjab University) spokesperson Ibrahim Shahid denied the involvement of its students in the incident. Panjab University spokesman Khurram Shahzad said that the university administration had not given permission to celebrate Holi in the law college garden. He said, if the function was celebrated inside the room then there would have been no problem. Shahzad said that the Vice-Chancellor has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
