Holi Rang: Holi is on the next 8th March. Delhi’s wholesale to retail markets are immersed in the colors of Holi. The biggest wholesale market Sadar Bazar is flooded with items like colors, gulal, pichkari, t-shirts, masks, fake hair, cats and hats. Wherever you look, Holi related items are being sold there.
Sale of 2,000 tonnes of Gulal
Pradeep Gupta, president of the Tilak Bazar Chemical Merchants Association, says that about 2,000 tonnes of gulal are sold in the markets of Delhi on the occasion of Holi. According to an estimate, 400 to 500 tonnes of gulal is consumed on the occasion of Holi in Delhi-NCR alone. A lot of goods are supplied from here to other states as well. This time business is expected to be normal. Instead of loose gulal in the market, the demand for branded packs has increased. This time the rates have also increased. The price of arrowroot fluctuates, the effect of which is visible on the rate of Gulal.
Gulal is made from arrowroot
Suraj Prakash, the gulal seller of Sadar Bazar, says that he gets gulal from Mathura and Pratapgarh. Arrowroot gulal is also made here. Both machine-grinding and hand-grinding gulal are available in the market. The gulal of the machine will be fine, in which color and fragrance are mixed automatically. However, hand-ground arrowroot gulal is a bit thick. Color, water and fragrance are added to it in a big way. No chemical of any kind is used. Now retail buyers of gulal and colors have started coming to Sadar Bazar. Till now bulk buyers were reaching the market. Gulal will never work in Holi, even if new types of colors, sprays, silver, golden paste come. Gulal is also used in worship. People from Ghaziabad, Meerut, Aligarh, Faridabad, Gurugram, Rohtak, Baghpat and Mathura also come to Delhi to buy gulal and color-pichkari.
Gulal on Holi, Rangoli business on Diwali
Gulal seller Narendra Gupta in Tilak Bazar says that he works in Tilak Bazar before Holi and Diwali. Gulal is sold 15 days before Holi and Rangoli is sold 15 days before Diwali. They make their own gulal, in which there is no scope for adulteration. Arrowroot gulal is also available at general grocery stores. He says that now even the trend of playing with Gulal is decreasing. People say that clothes and house will get spoiled. Who will do the cleaning? The culture of high rise societies and building flats has increased. There is less space to play Holi at home. Now Holi is being celebrated by applying sandalwood tilak.
how to identify fake gulal
Gulal is mostly used on Holi. Some people sell adulterated gulal in the name of profiteering. People buy it by mistake because of its cheapness. Pradeep Gupta says that real-fake Gulal can be easily identified. Fake gulal is a bit heavy, whereas gulal made from arrowroot is lighter. It does not even stay on clothes and hands, that means it does not spoil clothes. They fall off easily. Chalk clay and marble powder are used in fake Gulal. This is harmful for the body. If you take both the gulal in hand, then the difference will be felt clearly. Real gulal will be light as well as soft.
Water colors come from Gujarat
Pradeep Gupta told that the colors applied on one’s face by rubbing hands are completely based on chemicals. You can also throw them on someone by dissolving them in water. Most of its production is done in Gujarat. Chemical colors are made in such a way that they do not harm the skin. Color is being sold in wholesale at Rs 300 to 400 per kg and Gulal at Rs 90 to 100 per kg.
This time the Tricolor Pichkari
Plastic water bottles are also being sold a lot in Sadar Bazar. This time, new and attractive designs have also come in the pichkaris. On August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for hoisting the ‘Tricolor at every house’. Its effect is visible on Holi. Tricolor sprayers are attracting attention in the market. Especially small children need saffron, white and green colored pichkari.
risk of fake colors
Use of fake colors and fake gulal on Holi can be harmful. This can cause skin damage. These are risky for the body in many ways.
– Skin irritation and itching
Skin allergies and infections
– burning sensation in the eyes
Risk of diseases like eczema and cancer
Risk of asthma and lung problems
Gulal comes from Hathras, Mathura and Pratapgarh
Gulal and colors are important in Holi. Its main manufacturing centers are Hathras, Mathura and Pratapgarh. Many big brands of gulal are prepared there. Here many artisans produce Gulal for months. Gulal is made from Diwali till January. Gulal is traded from February to Holi. The goods from the factories reach the wholesale market and then the retail market. Wholesale purchase and sale of gulal takes place in Naya Bazar and Sadar Bazar in Delhi.
Belan Pichkari is also craze
You are looking at the photo. You will say that this is a cylinder. What is the use of this in Holi? Let us tell you that this time the atomizer has come in the shape of a cylinder. Not only this, atomizers have also come in the market in cigarette shape. Pappu Gupta, the pichkari seller of Lahori Gate, says that those coming from other cities to buy bulk goods are asking for new varieties. Small children are also liking the four-string nozzle. Four streams come out together in it, which looks beautiful to see. Tank Pichkari is in many designs. People also need guitar pitches. Pichkari is available in the market from Rs.15 to Rs.280. Now no one is selling iron and steel pichkari.
