New Delhi. The US military said on Saturday that an Indian-flagged crude oil tanker was attacked by a drone fired by Houthi militants in the southern Red Sea. He said there was no report of anyone being injured in the attack. The Gabon-owned M/V Saibaba tanker reported at about 8 a.m. local time that it was attacked by a drone, followed by the US Navy destroyer USS Laboon (DDG 58), US Central Command said in a post on Twitter. ) answered his call. The Houthi rebels have declared their support for Hamas and said they will target any ships sailing to Israel.
In response, the US launched Operation Prosperity Gazan to protect the ships, and is supported by countries including the UK, Canada, France, Bahrain, Norway and Spain. Major shipping companies, including Mediterranean Shipping Co, Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd and oil giant BP, have said they are diverting ships away from the Red Sea.
