How China is breaking BRICS promise of ending terrorism supporting terrorists

In the recent years, every time China has blocked the decision to blacklist the terrorist who is present in Pakistan. China is an all-weather friend of Pakistan. India’s Foreign Minister Jaishankar has many times called Pakistan the ‘center of terrorism’. Here terrorists like Hafiz Saeed, Masood Azhar, Sajid Mir and Dawood Ibrahim have taken shelter.
The Foreign Ministers of BRICS, a grouping of five countries namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, issued a joint statement with the title ‘The Cape of Good Hope’ after the summit. In this, it was said to ‘strongly condemn terrorism whenever, wherever and whoever executes it’.
Expecting honesty from China!
All signatory countries are committed to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including the cross-border movement of terrorists, and terrorism-financing networks and safe havens. The statement did not explicitly mention Pakistan but it was a diplomatic victory for India at the BRICS forum. But after the record of China, this promise seems hollow. But in the BRICS meeting, Jaishankar clearly attacked China in his address. He said, ‘For two decades we have heard the demand for reform of multilateral institutions. But we are constantly disappointed. Therefore, it is imperative that BRICS members demonstrate sincerity in reforming all global decisions, including the UN Security Council.
China helping terrorists
China has many times blocked the proposal related to Pakistani terrorists to be banned in the United Nations. In October 2022, he had stuck one such proposal in which Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Shahid Mehmood was to be declared a global terrorist. This was the fourth time in four months that China had stalled efforts to blacklist terrorists on the UN platform. With the help of China, Pakistan was taken out of the gray list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
Will China also get cheated?
On the instigation of China, the enthusiasm of the ever-green friend Pakistan is also increasing. He now refuses to accept that Sajid Mir, a dangerous terrorist who carried out attacks like 26/11, is present in his country. At the same time, experts believe that this attitude of China and its double standards on terrorism is taking a toll on it. Now Chinese citizens are being targeted in Pakistan itself.
