Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned China against supporting Russia amid the Ukraine war, saying that doing so would lead to a world war. Zelensky told the German daily Die Welt that it is important for us that China does not support the Russian Federation in this war. In fact, I would like it to be in our favor. However, at the moment, I don’t think this is possible. But I see an opportunity for China to make a pragmatic assessment of what is happening here.
If China aligns itself with Russia there will be a world war and I think China is aware of that. The remarks came as US President Joe Biden made an unannounced visit to Ukraine to meet Zelensky in an expression of solidarity ahead of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of the country. Joe Biden spent more than five hours in Kiev, recalling fears almost a year ago that Russia might take over the city.
Joe Biden said that the price Ukraine has to pay is extraordinarily high. The sacrifices have been too many. We know there will be very difficult days and weeks and years ahead. But Russia’s aim was to wipe Ukraine off the map. Putin’s war for victory is failing.
