PTI cooperated with Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) but failed to negotiate an agreement with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F).

Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will join hands with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) to try to form government in the Centre, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. This comes after PTI collaborated with Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) but failed to negotiate a deal with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F). PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has said that the party has reached a formal agreement with the Sunni Ittehad Council and it will be handed over to the Election Commission of Pakistan. He said that our candidates in the National Assembly, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies will join the Sunni Ittehad Council.

There are 70 reserved seats in the National Assembly and 227 reserved seats in the entire country. These seats are provided only to political parties. Therefore, to protect our reserved seats and provide cover to our members, we have entered into a formal agreement under which all our candidates have joined the party and we will present this document to the ECP. PTI’s PM candidate Omar Ayub Khan said his party wants unity in the country and hence the party-backed candidates have decided to join the Sunni Ittehad Council at the Center and all provinces. This is because the quota of reserved seats is with the political parties. Coming together with Sunni Ittehad Council will increase the strength of PTI in the National Assembly. He said that after joining the SIC and forming the government, the party’s first priority would be to get the release of Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and other members of PTI’s senior leadership.

Unconditional support to Imran Khan

Sunni Ittehad Council leader Hafiz Hamid Raza on Monday said his party’s alliance with PTI was struck about eight years ago, Dawn reported. He said that I want to make it clear that this is not an individual decision. This includes the approval of PTI leadership and Imran Khan. Raza said that SIC and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen were two parties that had always opposed communal violence. The SIC leader said that I want to clarify one more thing that our support to Imran Khan and PTI is unconditional and without any demands.
