Imran Khan moves Supreme Court, urges judicial inquiry into February elections

Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court to form a judicial commission of serving judges to probe the authenticity of last month’s general elections marred by allegations of rigging.

General elections were held on February 8, but Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) refused to accept the results, alleging manipulation. PTI leader and senior lawyer Hamid Khan filed the petition on behalf of former Prime Minister Khan.

In this he has said that the Commission should investigate and review the results as well as the matters related to the process and conduct of the general elections held on February 8. Also, the results of the investigation should be made public.

Khan’s party claims it won about 180 National Assembly seats, but the results were rigged and it was deprived of dozens of seats. It contested 266 seats and won only 92 seats.

However, the Election Commission of Pakistan denied these allegations and said that the elections were conducted under a completely fair process and the results were declared accordingly.
