The Islamabad High Court has ordered the release of PTI leaders Malika Bukhari and Ali Muhammad Khan, declaring their arrest “illegal”.

In a further relief to Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, the Islamabad High Court on Wednesday ordered the release of its leaders Malika Bukhari and Ali Muhammad Khan terming their arrest as “illegal”. The leaders were arrested after violence broke out in Pakistan following the arrest of Imran Khan on 9 May. Both the leaders were arrested under the MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) Ordinance, 1969. Earlier, the Punjab Police says that the women taken into custody on May 9 were treated with respect. The Punjab Police said in a tweet that the women detained during the violent attacks on May 9 were treated with dignity and respect. The police said that the reports of ill-treatment of the detained women are completely fabricated and baseless on the basis of concrete evidence.

High Court extends order banning Imran’s arrest in new cases till May 31

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has extended its order to stay the arrest of Imran Khan in cases filed against him after May 9. This extension is effective till May 31. Imran’s lawyer Barrister Gauhar represented him in the court today. The government’s counsel sought more time to furnish details of cases filed against the PTI chief. The court accepted the request and adjourned the hearing till May 31.
