Imran Khan Third Marriage: After 14 years of jail sentence, Imran’s third marriage is now in controversy, HC reserved the decision.

The troubles of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi are not showing any signs of ending. Pakistan’s High Court reserved its verdict on a petition seeking dismissal of the case challenging the couple’s ‘un-Islamic’ marriage. Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamir Farooq heard the case filed by Bibi’s ex-husband Khawar Maneka in November last year, The Express Tribune newspaper reported. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party supremo demanded legal action against Khan for marrying his current wife while she was allegedly on Iddat period. The Iddat period (three months) is a waiting period that a Muslim woman must observe due to the death of her husband or divorce.

During the hearing, PTI side’s lawyer Salman Akram Raja said the case was only aimed at humiliating the petitioners, highlighting that the complaint against Khan’s marriage was filed in November 2023, five years and 11 months after the Nikah Went. The report said Maneka’s lawyer told the court that witnesses had testified in the trial court that Bibi was already married to Imran at the time of the marriage. It said that after the arguments of the lawyers of both the parties, the court reserved its decision on the case. Earlier this month, a lower court had convicted Khan and Bibi in the marriage case. 49-year-old Bibi belongs to a landlord family of Punjab. His first marriage, which lasted for about 30 years, was to Maneka, who belonged to a politically influential family from Punjab.

Earlier in the day, an accountability court had sentenced the former prime minister and his wife Bibi to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment in a corruption case. In the Toshakhana corruption case, the jailed PTI founder was accused of possessing expensive government gifts he received during his tenure as Prime Minister of Pakistan. The couple have been barred from holding any public office for ten years and fined Rs 787 million each.
