Charges framed in Toshakhana case
PTI chairman Imran Khan was charged in the Toshakhana case on Wednesday, a day after he was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) premises in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case. Separately, an accountability court reserved its order on NAB’s plea seeking 14-day remand of the PTI chairman. Both the hearings took place at the Islamabad Police Lines.
What is Toshakhana case, what are the allegations?
Toshakhana A store where gifts given to government officials from foreign countries are kept. There is an allegation against Imran that during the tenure of his Prime Minister, he took the gifts received from different countries from Toshakhana (Copagar) at cheap prices and sold them at an expensive price. Gifts were bought for Rs 2.15 crore and sold for more than Rs 20 crore. The officers are legally allowed to retain the gifts provided they pay a pre-determined amount.
