Malik Riaz is the seventh richest person in Pakistan. He is the owner of Bahariya Town, Asia’s largest real estate company. NAB alleges that when Imran Khan was the PM, he struck a deal with Malik that resulted in a tax loss of $239 million to the exchequer. According to NAB, Imran had done this deal under compensation. In December 2019, Riyaz had agreed to hand over his properties to the UK crime agency. The property he wanted to hand over was said to be worth $239 million. Riyaz had made this promise after being named in the Dirty Money investigation. Although Imran and his government had no direct relation with this case. NAB had also ordered Riyaz to appear on December 1, 2022 in the same case. NAB wanted to question him on the issue of transfer of 458 acres of land to Al Qadir Trust University.

The notice sent by NAB stated that Malik Riaz’s son, Ali Riaz Malik, had entered into an out-of-court settlement with Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to return the money to Pakistan. However, Malik denied all these allegations. Now that the demand to arrest them has also started rising, experts have also started giving their opinion. According to defense experts, Riyaz’s arrest is difficult because apart from the army, he has deep ties with Asif Ali Zardari’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N).
