The history of Lin Huen town, located in China’s Anhui province, is one thousand years old. There are more than 20 tea houses in this town. From the year 2017, public representative contact centers have been established in the tea house. On the 10th of every month, the county and town level people’s representatives come to the Tea House and listen to the opinions, suggestions and complaints of the common people and transfer the related questions to the government department.
Yang Xi Chung, deputy head of the Lin Huen town government, said that the tea house is a window for us to listen to the public’s voice. There are urgent difficulties of common people, like water and electricity related questions, repair of road, renovation of house and etc., we include them in our work list. We have also set up a special task force, so that the monitoring of the people’s representatives is accepted on a regular basis.
Team House also mediates civil disputes. Wang Xihong, director of the Tea House Mediation Center in Lin Huen Town, said that we have mediated more than 1,500 cases here in a few years, and the success rate is about 95 percent. Relying on the public to solve the public’s questions is the democracy of China. This is also our intelligence.
