Istanbul : The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said in an analysis report on Monday that in the year 2022, the incidents of misbehavior of co-passengers in commercial airline flights have increased by about 37 percent. The report states that in the year 2022, commercial airlines have reported an incident of misbehavior with passengers per 835 flights. However, in 2021, one incident of misbehavior was reported per 568 flights. It has been said in the report that in 2022, there has been a tremendous increase of about 61 percent in the incidents of drunkenness and verbal arguments.

Airlines industry expects profit of $9.8 billion

Along with this, IATA has also said that the airlines industry is expected to make a net profit of $9.8 billion this year. The performance of the industry has improved due to the increase in the number of passengers and the revival of the economies of various countries. IATA Director General Willie Walsh said that despite economic uncertainties, people are flying to reconnect, explore and do business. The latest data shows that the passenger traffic is more than 90 per cent of the 2019 level.

Increase in the number of passengers at airports

IATA Director General Willie Walsh told IATA’s Annual General Meeting in Istanbul that airports are overcrowded and hotel occupancy is increasing, local economies are rebuilding and the airlines industry has returned to profitability. The airlines industry is expected to generate a revenue of US$ 803 billion and a net profit of US$ 9.8 billion this year. He said the airlines would earn an average of $2.25 per passenger.

Airlines industry also pays tax

Rejecting the argument that the international aviation sector is not taxed, IATA has said that an analysis of nearly seven billion international flight tickets shows that airlines have paid $380 billion in taxes and fees. IATA is a group of more than 300 airlines. Indian airlines are also included in these. Willie Walsh said that the argument that international aviation is not taxed is not correct.
