India and Myanmar on Wednesday widely discussed a range of issues including the current situation on the border, trade and ‘connectivity’. India also reiterated its support for the neighboring country’s progress towards democracy.

Both sides took stock of their overall cooperation at the 20th round of India-Myanmar Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held here. The Indian delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra while the Myanmar team was led by its Deputy Foreign Minister U Lwin Oo.

India last month called for an end to fighting between the Myanmar army and anti-junta groups near the India-Myanmar border, which has triggered an influx of Myanmar refugees into Mizoram.

Until a few weeks ago, clashes were ongoing between Myanmar’s anti-junta groups and government forces in several major towns and areas near the border with India.

“The two sides discussed a wide range of issues including security, trade, commerce and connectivity, status of bilateral development projects in Myanmar and concerns related to transnational crimes, besides the current situation on the border,” India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
