A 45-minute-long episode of YouTube and CBC’s investigative program ‘The Fifth Estate’ has been removed from the social media platform at India’s request, Hindustan Times reports. Sikh for Justice (SFJ) leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun was also included in the documentary. The documentary was released on March 8, nearly nine months after Nijjar’s death. The documentary also showed CCTV footage of the killing of Nijjar, who was a designated terrorist in India.

The action was taken on the video after the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology directed YouTube to restrict its access from India, HT reported, citing CBC’s announcement. The video is still available on the platform and can be accessed by anyone living anywhere else in the world.

What was shown in the documentary?

-The documentary showed footage of Nijjar’s murder, which took place inside the parking lot of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in British Columbia (BC), Canada, in June last year.

-In the CCTV footage of the murder, Nijjar can be seen driving a pickup truck. He was shot dead after his vehicle was stopped by a white sedan near the exit of the parking lot.

-The program also included a long interview of SFJ leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. In January this year, Pannun was reportedly seen threatening PM Modi ahead of the Republic Day celebrations. In a viral video, he can be seen saying, “I challenge Modi, you come to Delhi without your security. If you are a popular leader, come to Delhi without security on Republic Day and SFJ (Sikhs for Justice) is going to take revenge of the murder of Shaheed Nijjar by hoisting the flag of Khalistan.

Some Indo-Canadian community members had called the documentary ‘biased’ and ‘propaganda’, HT reported.
