India can play an important role in stopping Israel-Hamas conflict, Malaysia’s Foreign Minister appeals

Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambri Abdul Kadir has said like-minded countries like Malaysia and India should play a role in efforts to end the Israel-Hamas conflict and ensure the provision of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. Qadir was in New Delhi to co-chair the bilateral Joint Commission meeting with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar. He also said Malaysia, like other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), wants to ensure an Indo-Pacific. The area remains one of peace, prosperity and neutrality without any disputes between the major powers.

He highlighted India’s role in efforts to impose a ceasefire in Gaza, where Israeli strikes have killed more than 10,000 people and injured 26,000 others following Hamas terror attacks on October 7. Describing India as a country with an influential foreign policy that is highly respected, Kadir said, it is our responsibility as countries like India and Malaysia to play our part in ending hostilities. He said that we believe and India’s stand is also that we want the war to end immediately and…a humanitarian corridor should be opened to provide food to the people of Gaza. Because what is happening now is worrying and very unfortunate.

Qadir said that in his discussion with Jaishankar on Tuesday, the situation in Gaza and the Israel-Hamas conflict were discussed. He said that we also discussed this because it is a matter of great concern for everyone – it is not only for Malaysia but also for India and the rest of the world, no one sees people trapped in crisis or war, fighting against each other.
