India on Thursday strongly condemned the incidents of vandalism and graffiti glorifying anti-India terrorists at three Hindu temples here. The Swaminarayan Temple in Melbourne, the historic Sri Shiv Vishnu Temple at Carrom Downs in Victoria and the ISKCON temple in Melbourne were defaced with anti-India graffiti by anti-social elements.
In a strongly worded statement, the High Commission of India in Canberra said, “The continued and impunity perpetrated by miscreants and the painting of graffiti glorifying anti-India terrorists is worrying.” There are clear attempts to sow hatred and division among the faith-believing, multicultural and peaceful Indian-Australian community.
The High Commission highlighted that “pro-Khalistan elements are furthering their activities in Australia and are being aided and abetted by members of banned organizations like ‘Sikhs for Justice’ (SJF) and other anti-national agencies outside Australia.” “It is hoped that not only will the perpetrators be brought to justice, but appropriate action will be taken to prevent further such attempts,” the statement said.
In addition, the Commission has expressed concern over the so-called plebiscites in Melbourne and Sydney, announced by the banned organization ‘Sikhs for Justice’. The High Commission has urged the Australian Government to ensure the safety and security of members of the Indian community in Australia and their properties and not allow the use of Australian territory for activities prejudicial to India’s territorial integrity, security and national interest. The Australian High Commission in New Delhi has also expressed concern over the incidents, saying they are looking into the matter.
