Afghanistan’s Taliban government has taken steps to restore property rights of Hindu and Sikh communities. India has called this decision a welcome step. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the Taliban’s decision to restore property rights to the Afghan Hindu and Sikh community is a positive development.

New Delhi . India on Friday described the Taliban regime’s move to restore land rights to Afghan Hindu and Sikh minorities as a positive development. According to reports, the Taliban administration has taken steps to restore property rights of Hindu and Sikh communities. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, we have seen reports on this issue. If the Taliban administration has decided to restore property rights of its citizens from the Afghan Hindu and Sikh community, we see it as a positive development.

He made this comment in response to a question asked in this regard during the weekly press conference. According to reports, the Taliban regime has formed a commission to return their rights to the owners of private land that was confiscated during the tenure of the previous government in Kabul. The Taliban government’s latest move comes weeks after Indian diplomat JP Singh met senior Afghan officials in Kabul.

Singh, joint secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, had talked to Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki last month. Singh heads the Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran Division in the Ministry of External Affairs. India has so far not recognized the Taliban rule in Afghanistan and has been insisting on the formation of an inclusive government in Kabul. Along with this, India has also been emphasizing that Afghan soil should not be used for terrorist activities against any country.
