India’s rare meeting with NATO
According to the report of The Week, sources related to this meeting said that this meeting is the first of its kind in India. The meeting took place behind closed doors. The NATO delegation included a Polish minister. The meeting is being described as part of Track 1.5 diplomacy. The interaction was facilitated by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation, headquartered in Berlin. The foundation describes itself as working to promote liberal democracy and the social market economy, peace and freedom, transatlantic relations and European integration.
What happened to India’s talks with NATO
Sources said a roadmap and other avenues for India-NATO cooperation were explored in the meeting. In this, talks were mainly held regarding the Indo-Pacific region. The NATO delegation expressed deep concern over the growing relations between China and Russia. It is being told that the Russia-Ukraine conflict was among the other topics discussed. India is refraining from giving the name of war to this conflict, while European countries including America are opposing it. India has clearly stated that no platform will be used to criticize Russia.
NATO wants to join hands with India against China
The US, the most powerful country in NATO, wants a strong presence in the Indo-Pacific to counter China’s growing military power and strategic depth. Interestingly, on Thursday, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in a message to the US military described China as a threat and a challenge. He had said that an aggressive China is increasingly trying to shape the international rules-based system to suit its authoritarian preferences.
