At the same time, sources said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) may investigate the attacks on the Indian High Commission in Canada and the United States. The probe agency is already probing the attacks on the Indian High Commission in the United Kingdom and now, sources have said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is likely to soon transfer Canada and the US cases to the NIA as well.
In March this year, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police registered two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with the attack on the Indian High Commission in San Francisco and Canada. A grenade was also hurled during the attack on the Indian High Commission in Canada, following which the Special Cell had to register an FIR in the matter under UAPA and Explosives Act. In the same month, a similar attack was witnessed on the Indian High Commission in San Francisco, United States. The Special Cell had registered an FIR under UAPA in this case also.
NIA team probing attack on Indian High Commission
A five-member NIA team reached London on 23 May to probe the pro-Khalistan protests. During which the national flag was brought down at the Indian High Commission in March this year. The NIA team also had a list of people with Khalistani links, which would be handed over to British authorities and security agencies in London. The case was handed over to the NIA by the Counter Terrorism and Counter Radicalization (CTCR) Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs on 18 April.
