India Vs Canada Row: Growing rift between the two countries, understand the entire dispute through 10 developments

Relations between India and Canada have reached a new low in the last few days. Tension escalated after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau claimed India’s alleged link in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Nijjar, the founder of Khalistan Tiger Force and second in command in another Khalistani organization Sikh for Justice (SFJ), was shot dead on June 18 this year. Canada claimed that Indian agents were behind the assassination. Since then, India and Canada have taken several actions against each other.

1. Canada expelled a top Indian diplomat after allegations against PM Justin Trudeau. India retaliated by expelling the top Canadian diplomat posted in New Delhi. India gave them four days to leave New Delhi.

2. The Canadian Embassy in New Delhi later asked local staff to leave the mission. It also barred Canadian employees from speaking to the media.

3. Following this, Canada issued a travel advisory for its residents visiting Kashmir. Meanwhile, SFJ chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun issued a video message threatening Hindus and pro-India Sikhs to leave Canada.

4. Following the threatening messages, India issued a travel advisory for its residents and students traveling to Canada asking them to remain alert and exercise restraint. Canadian MP Chandra Arya today urged Hindus to remain calm and report any hate incidents to law enforcement agencies in Canada.

5. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday released details of 43 individuals linked to a terror-gangster network who have links to Canada. The NIA asked the public to share details of their properties and assets, which can be taken into custody by the Central government. NIA in its post released photographs of Lawrence Bishnoi, Jasdeep Singh, Kala Jatheri alias Sandeep, Virendra Pratap alias Kala Rana and Joginder Singh along with their names. It highlighted that many of these gangsters are based in Canada.

6. Amidst the tension, Canadian singer Shubh shared a distorted map of India with a pro-Khalistan message. After this his shows in India were cancelled.

7. Amid the diplomatic tussle between India and Canada, the Punjab Police is conducting raids to nab associates of gangster Goldie Brar, who is said to be based in Canada. Brar is accused of murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Punjab Police started the mission at 7 am on Thursday and will continue throughout the day. Police are conducting operations in Moga, Firozpur, Tarn Taran and Amritsar Rural districts.

8. The Canadian Embassy in New Delhi has now announced that it will be reducing its staff strength in India. This comes amid tensions and uncertainties between the two countries.

9. Indian missions in Canada today suspended visa services for Canadian residents. The Indian Mission in Canada has updated its visa application page on BLS International, reinstating a ticker that cites temporary suspension of visa services until further notice due to operational reasons.

10. Gangster Sukhdul Singh alias Sukha Duneke was shot dead in Canada today. Lawrence Bishnoi gang has taken responsibility for the murder. Sukha had fled India in 2017 on a fake passport.
