Kathmandu: India has given a big blow to China, which is trying to make Nepal a pauper like Sri Lanka and Pakistan by trapping Nepal in the Belt and Road project. India has signed an agreement with Nepal to buy 10,000 MW of electricity. Recently, during the visit of Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda to India, an agreement was also reached regarding electricity. Now India has made it clear that it will take the electricity generated by Nepal, but if that project is built by China or its money is invested, then it will not take it. China has been trying for a long time to reach the Indian market through Nepal. Tomatoes from China are being smuggled into the Indian market right now. Not only this, India has also asked for proof regarding the production of tomatoes being exported from Nepal. India has started an inquiry into the power it buys from Nepal. India has flatly refused to buy electricity from the hydro project made by China. Not only this, India is now ascertaining whether Chinese investment has any role in the power projects through which Nepal wants to export power. Prabal Adhikari, director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, told the Kathmandu Post newspaper, “Now India has asked for the details of the financial closure.”

Prabal said, ‘It has been asked how the project has been financed. Which organization and other agencies have been involved in the project. We have sent the complete details to India. Nepal currently sells 452 MW of electricity to India. Nepal now wants to generate electricity from 18 more hydropower projects. Their total capacity is 1 thousand MW. India has now sought financial closure details of all power projects.
Nepali officials said that India now wants a full investigation of the hydro power project. In such a situation, now Nepal will not be able to sell the electricity produced by China to India. He said that through this India wants to ensure that the electricity generated with the money of China is not sold to India. India has made it clear to Nepal that it will not buy electricity generated directly or indirectly from China. Nepal is not able to sell electricity to any country except India. China currently does not buy any electricity from Nepal.
