A 33-year-old Indian-American man in the US state of Virginia has been accused of transferring thousands of dollars to Islamic State (IS) women to get them out of a Syrian refugee camp. This information has been given in a media report. A recent news report in the ‘Washington Post’ newspaper reported that Mohammad Azharuddin ‘Chipa’ used social media to raise funds for IS women living in the al-Hol refugee camp in Syria and was involved in violent acts. Gave online support for Jihad.
Citing an FBI report, the paper wrote that in 2019, Azharuddin began using social media to raise funds for ‘sisters’ at the Al-Hol refugee camp in Syria. Syria is considered the stronghold of the ‘ISIS’ ideology. The FBI claimed that the money was for shelter. The FBI has said that a search of Azharuddin’s home in 2019 turned up thousands of videos, pictures, essays, books, notes and ‘search histories’ on various devices about extremist ideology, jihad, ISIS and violent propaganda.
The report states that Azharuddin, who is in jail, could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Quoting the FBI, the report said many of the women held in the refugee camps were married to IS fighters who were either killed or captured fighting for control of Syrian territory against US-backed forces.
