Indian-American Sikh leader has said that Khalistan movement in America has no support neither in the government nor in the community. Jassi Singh of the Sikhs of America organization also urged the Modi government to provide a comprehensive developmental package for Punjab to address several key challenges faced by the state, including the problem of illicit drugs among the youth.
Singh said in an interview that the Modi government’s relations with Sikhs and the work it has done for the community are unprecedented compared to previous governments. It doesn’t have any message. Also, there are many Sikh issues that need attention. This also includes atrocities against Sikhs in the 1984 riots. No Sikh will forget this. He said the Modi government has tried its best to address the concerns of the Sikhs, but there are many issues that still need their attention.
He said that there is a small minority in India and America which supports this movement. Singh and his delegation have met the Prime Minister during each of his visits to the US since 2014. Noting that India’s growth story makes every NRI proud, Singh said the time has come for the Center to give some better package for the state of Punjab, its youth and its people.
