The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Wednesday rejected four petitions filed by Indian app companies against Google’s new Play Store billing policy of imposing 11 to 26 percent fee on payments through apps.

Indian app companies alleged that Google’s Play Store policies are anti-competitive. However, the CCI clarified that nothing said in this order would amount to a final expression of opinion on the merits of the case. …and the Director General will conduct the investigation without being influenced in any way by the comments made here.

“The Commission is of the view that the petitioners in this regard have failed to satisfy the necessary criteria for grant of interim relief as proposed by the Supreme Court,” the CCI said in its order.

The complainants include Anupam Mittal’s People Interactive India Pvt Ltd, Mebigo Labs, Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation (IBDF) and Indian Digital Media Industry Foundation (IDMIF).

The petitions appealed to the regulator to stop Google from charging any fee for transactions involving paid downloads or in-app purchases on apps offering digital products/services.
