A 27-year-old Indian citizen working as a journalist died in a fire in a residential building in Manhattan, America. Fazil Khan died and 17 others were injured in a fire that broke out in a six-story residential building at 2, St. Nicholas Palace in Harlem, Manhattan.

The New York City Fire Department said the devastating fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery. Khan was a journalist for ‘The Hechinger Report’, a media company focused on innovation and inequality in education based in New York.

The Consulate General of India in New York expressed condolences over Khan’s death and said it was providing all possible assistance to repatriate his body to his family in India.

“Saddened to learn about the death of 27-year-old Indian national Fazil Khan in a fire incident in Harlem, New York,” the Consulate General said in a post on Saturday.

The Consulate General said it was in touch with Khan’s family and friends. The Consulate General said, “We will provide all possible assistance in bringing his mortal remains back to India.
