The first few months of marriage were suffocating for both of us.
Like most Indians, I too had an arranged marriage. Before marriage, I had spoken to my wife only a couple of times, as our wedding date was 3 months after we met formally and we were both busy with work and wedding preparations.
On the first night after marriage, we two strangers were sitting alone in the room facing each other. At that point I realized that I knew more about my watchman than about my wife. That night we did nothing, as we were strangers and were very tired from the long rituals of our marriage. The first few months of marriage were suffocating for both of us. We tried to change for each other but that only made things worse. Differences kept increasing between us.
I was lucky that my arranged marriage went well
I had an arranged marriage. By family choice, I got married to a woman five years younger to me. It was a very different feeling to spend the first night after marriage with a stranger, but it was a compulsion.
Eventually, we both started talking and fell asleep with our heads at each other’s feet. This whole scene was like Diljit Dosanjh’s Stranger song. We dated like newlyweds, and decided to get physical when we both felt ready to do so. I was lucky that everything turned out well.

My arranged marriage almost drove me to commit suicide if I had not met my now wife. I was stuck in an arranged marriage for 3 years which left me mentally broken. To overcome that I started seeing a therapist and after a year long counseling was able to put myself back on track.
My first wife always used to bother me about my salary. I used to curse the whole day because she had to live in a joint family, which she did not like at all. She had a lot of complaints, which is understandable but it was an arranged marriage so what else did she expect? After all, adjustment is another name for marriage. After consulting the experts, I filed for divorce and she readily agreed to the same. All this was a terrible experience for me.
