Johannesburg. A large number of people on Friday participated in India’s 75th Republic Day celebrations organized by the Indian Consulate in Johannesburg, South Africa. Consul General Mahesh Kumar read the speech given by President of India Draupadi Murmu and then hoisted the national flag. During the function, many programs were presented by local people and NRIs and during this, people also tasted dishes made from millet.
Anusha Nathu, an NRI present at the event, said, “This is a very emotional moment for me because all my ancestors came from Gujarat. This day makes me feel connected to there.” Manjeet Srivastava, who came here from India about 50 years ago and took citizenship, said that he tries to attend the Republic Day program at the Consulate every year. He said, “Today I am celebrating both 30 years of democracy of South Africa and 75th Republic Day of India. I am very happy.
