A former support officer of Singapore’s Changi Airport Group (CAG) was on Friday sentenced to three years and two months in prison for accepting bribes to issue ‘airside driving permits’ (ADPs) to ineligible staff. This information has come to light from the news published in ‘The Strait Times’. The ADP permit allows the holder to operate selected vehicles on any part of the ‘airside’ except the taxiway and runway. The ‘airside’ includes all areas of an airport terminal other than the passport and customs control zones, including hangars and cargo loading areas.
According to the news, Premkumar Jayakumar (42) was working in the CAG from October 6, 2015 to December 25, 2017. During this, it issued ADPs to the close staff of CAG Director Deong Yao, knowing that they had not passed the required written and practical tests. According to the report, Jayakumar took a bribe of S$4,400 from Yao and others for issuing the ADP. It states that at the time of the crime, Jayakumar was working as a director in the Singapore Logistics Support Department.
