London (Uttam Hindu News): A 39-year-old Indian-origin man in Britain has been sentenced to 16 weeks in jail for sexually assaulting a woman in a train. His name has been put on the sex offenders register for seven years after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a woman on a train in 2021.
Mukhan Singh, of Sandwell, West Midlands County, was ordered to pay a £128 surcharge at Warwick Crown Court, where he was recently sentenced.
The court listened to the victim. A woman in her 20s was traveling from Birmingham Moor Street to London Marylebone in September 2021 when Singh started stalking her from a nearby table.
He later sat on the seat next to the victim and sexually assaulted her, preventing her from getting in, WarwickshireWorld news portal reported last week.
The victim recorded footage of Singh as he prepared to leave the train at Leamington Spa, before reporting the incident to a member of staff.
He was arrested and taken into police custody by officers, the report said, adding that in his police interview Singh claimed that the victim “wanted something to be done to her”.
The investigating officer, Detective Constable Harris, said: “This was an attack on a young woman who was traveling alone and had every right to travel safely. Instead she was violated by Singh, who then had the audacity to claim it was ‘wanted’. “I am pleased to see the court impose a sentence that will give Singh ample time to reflect on his unacceptable actions.”
Earlier this year, Simon Abraham, 34, was sentenced to 18 months in jail by a UK court after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a female patient.
