Indian-origin Parvati appointed as United Nations ‘Resident Coordinator’ in Tajikistan

Indian-origin Kavilamadam Ramaswamy Parvathi has been appointed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as the United Nations’ Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan. Pavarti played a key role in the implementation of the World Food Program in Turkey and Afghanistan. Guterres’ spokesman Stéphane Dujarric told a daily news conference that Parvati took up the position of ‘Resident Coordinator’ in Tajikistan on Wednesday after being appointed by the Secretary-General and confirmed by the host government.

Dujarric said, “We are determined to maintain full gender parity in the appointment of our 130 ‘Resident Coordinators’.” According to the statement, Parvati will have strategic planning, risk management, Has over 30 years of experience in the areas of people management, conflict analysis and humanitarian outreach. Prior to this, Parvati was the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) representative and country director in Turkey.

During this, he worked to meet the food and nutritional needs of the underprivileged. Parvati actively contributed to the United Nations Multi-Sectoral Response Program in support of the government’s efforts to provide emergency assistance to the earthquake-affected people. According to the statement, Parvathy is a post graduate in Organizational Performance Management from the School of Management, Cranfield University, England.
