Indian Railways: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that there will be no privatization of railways. He said that this decision has been taken keeping in view the strategic importance of railways and its complexities. Ashwini Vaishnav while answering the question of Maharashtra MP Shrikant Shinde said that development work of more than 1200 stations is being done across the country. The Central Government is working in collaboration with the State Governments.

There will be no privatization of railway stations

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav termed the redevelopment of stations in operational condition as a challenging task. Also clarified that there will be no privatization of railway stations. He said that the development of railway stations is basically being done from the funds of the government. The Railway Minister said that modernization and upgradation of railway stations and facilities in Indian Railways is an on-going and continuous process depending upon the volume of traffic, availability of funds and mutual priority of works.

Know what is Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

Ashwini Vaishnav said that recently a new scheme Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has been started for modernization of railway stations. Under this scheme, a total of 1275 stations have been identified in the country including border areas for the development of Amrit Bharat station. Railway Minister said that under this scheme, 72 stations in Andhra Pradesh, one in Arunachal Pradesh, 49 in Assam, 86 in Bihar, 32 in Chhattisgarh, 13 in Delhi, 2 in Goa, 87 in Gujarat, 29 in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh 3 in Jharkhand, 55 in Karnataka, 34 in Kerala, 80 in Madhya Pradesh, 123 in Maharashtra, 57 in Odisha, 30 in Punjab, 82 in Rajasthan, 73 in Tamil Nadu, 39 in Telangana, 4 in Tripura, 4 in Uttar Pradesh 149 stations will be developed, 11 in Uttarakhand, 94 in West Bengal and 4 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Target to complete redevelopment work of railway stations in 2-3 years

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the railway system has its own complexities, in which it is kept in mind during the development of stations that the operation of trains is not affected. He said that out of 1200 stations which are being developed now, 1190 stations are being developed from their own funds and there is no private participation in it. He said that the government has set a target to complete the redevelopment work of railway stations in 2-3 years.
